David Hindman is a classical guitarist, programmer, composer, and pioneer in the field of sonically controlled video games. He received his M.M. from Yale University where he studied with Benjamin Verdery and was recipient of the Elliot Fisk Prize. As a guitarist, David has performed solo and chamber music concerts throughout the United States. As a composer David has written original scores for the NYU films Dissident Aggressor and The Walk, in addition to composing music for his guitar duo entitled Modal Kombat, the first instrument-controlled video game battle. As a programmer David has provided software alternatives to guitar looping hardware such as the Lexicon Jamman or Gibson Echoplex. His looping software was created for a piece of music called Soepa, by composer Ingram Marshall. David has also created original software for Benjamin Verdery's work Be Kind All the Time. David's love for music and recently-found aptitude for programming led him to enroll in the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU where he developed methods for controlling video games with sound. Recently he has performed Modal Kombat at the NIME 2006 conference in Paris and at the CSSSA Program at CalArts in Los Angeles. David was awarded a 2006 Baryshnikov Arts Center Fellowship.
